Sjove caféer for børn

Aurelia

The Laundromat café

The Laundromat Café – ved juletid

Free Copenhagen (uk)

Our list of the best free experiences in our local Copenhagen

If you are worried about your budget for the trip to Copenhagen, fear not—some of the best ways to experience the city are completely free.

Christiania Sunday Concerts – At Nemoland

Visiting Christiania is one thing and spending time there can be completely different. If you stroll away from the Pusher Street you’ll find the funky DIY store Den Grønne Hal, a hidden beach, wonderful breakfast locations and Kvindesmedien. The very best though is Nemoland on summer Sundays. Usually starting early evening are free concerts with different national and international artists. Come early is a good idea for the best view, but you will always be able to find a place.
Fabriksområdet 52, 1440 København

CopenHill

Recently opened Copen Hill is a power plant with a ski hill on top. And no need for snow—you can ride all year. You can also access the top with an elevator or walk the stairs to the top. There is even an option to mix it up and take the hike trail for some extra training.
As you can imagine the view is incredible from the top!
The walk up and down is free, but using the ski lifts will cost you.

Open around 12.00 to 20.00.

Website: https://www.copenhill.dk/en/
Vindmøllevej 6, 2300 København

Botanical Garden

Centrally located the botanical garden is always worth a visit. You’ll probably find yourself in the area anyway at some point walking around Copenhagen so why not stop by for a beautiful walk. Warm enough, just bring a cold drink and have a sit wherever you like.

Paying a small fee will also give access to the different flower-houses. The staircase and walkway at the Palm House is fantastic.

Gothersgade 128, 1123 København

Tårnet – Tower of Christiansborg

Enter through the big Kingsgate facing the big square in front of Christiansborg. Turn right and you’ll be at the security check and elevator. Easy.

Once you climb the final stairs you have an incredible 360°-view of Copenhagen from one of the highest points in the centre. You’ll see all the beautiful towers and domes of the inner city, but on a clear day you have an endless view of the harbour, Øresund and even all the way to the bridge and Sweden.
Usually there is almost no line around 11.00-12.00 and 16.00-17.30.

The tower is open Tuesday-Saturday 11.00-21.00.

Prins Jørgens Gård 1, 1218 København

Modern architectural trip to Ørestaden

Ørestaden is a newer neighbourhood project of Copenhagen. Easy accessible via the metro line that takes you straight there.
The architect Bjarke Ingels is one of the people behind several of the different projects. Still today the most popular pieces at Ørestaden are VM-husene, Bjerget, Royal Arena and 8-tallet (indsæt links med location).

Glyptoteket

Not only are you about to visit one of the most beautiful buildings the old center of Copenhagen, but this museum also holds an unbelievable collection of art in many forms.
The first thing you see when entering is the indoor palm garden. Actually palm trees from Carl Jacobsens (founder of Carlsberg) own garden—making these more than 140 years old.
Something that many never find when visiting this museum is the rooftop terrace. Simply a must see, and also appropriate for a drink in the summer.

Dantes Plads 7, 1556 København

Assistentens Kirkegård

The old cemetery is a very popular destination for the locals on Nørrebro in the summer. People are coming there to eat lunch, tan, walk their dog or meet up with friends on the big grass areas. It’s a nice place to get a little distance from the city. Many iconic people are buried here – like H.C Andersen and Niels bohr. Take a look at the maps inside the Cemetery and find you way around the place.

Wintercharme in Copenhagen (uk)

Copenhagen this time of year can be gray and dull. Fortunately, we go towards brighter times, and until then, let’s enjoy the things that make winter special and cozy in Denmark. Here is our proposal for a cold February day at Østerbro and Nordhavn.

Treat yourself to a meal at Buvette in Nordhavn

Which is perfectly located so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the water while having lunch. Sit in the warm ambiance and spoil all your senses at the same time. And why not dolike me and pick a classic; Caesar salad, which is simple and superb. The salad was crisp, the chicken tasty and most importantly is was all covered in a pillow of flavorful parmesan –you can never have to much of that if you ask me!
Finally, try one of their sparkling rhubarb or elderflower lemonades. It was a perfect fresh combination with the salad. The atmosphere is intimate and the decor is expressive –clearly the have great love for the details in terms of both food and décor. In generel theirmenu is quite simpel and that makes is easy to choose. In my opinion many restaurant often have way to many options and here they really focus on the quality.I simply love that on the last page of the menu, they offer the opportunity for a guest to writea recommendation for the next guest –sweet, fun and a nice gesture.

The next stop wasa local gem on Viborggade -Victoria’s

They havecreated such a cozy and warm universe–you simply can’t do anything but surrender. Fudge that melts on the tongue, wooden puzzles, woolen plaids, scented soaps and hand creams of the best quality. There is also a great deal of emphasis on pampering the men with aftershave, cologne, cashmere socks and other delights. The small shop is simply an orgy of charm, warmth and intimacy -as well as service.

Beautiful styles from N24

Even though itis cold, the wardrobe may well suit the color of everyday life. At N24 you will find a handpicked selection of beautiful styles. It’s easy to find an all-round outfit with a pair of the classy classic boots and beautiful dresses -perfect for both everyday and partying. The art here is to be able to limit yourself, because there are really many lovely colors and the prices are good.

A cafe you must visit is Aurelia.

Here you can get hot coffee, muffins and intimate local ambiance. The owner Katja knows pretty much everyone who walks in the door to the little oasis. The passion for the guests is just as great as what is laid out in the decor and yes, the beautiful mint green wallpaper with the fine gold details. In addition, it is the only place we have experienced to get glitter in the cocoa and not least on the small adorable cakes -and yes, it just tastes better with a little sparkle in everyday life.

Four memorable coffee experiences (uk)

Denmark is the fourth most coffee drinking nation in the world. We simply love that black opium. In Copenhagen many of our cafes clams that they have ‘the best coffee in town’ – and they probably do.

Denmark is the fourth most coffee drinking nation in the world. We simply love that black opium. In Copenhagen many of our cafes clams that they have ‘the best coffee in town’ – and they probably do. However, since we are all have a different taste, I think that it’s hard to say who has the best coffee in town. So many places serves delicious coffee and have studied the craft to perfection. In this little coffee guide I will not show you where to get the best coffee in town. What I will show you, is where to get the most memorable coffee experience in town

The Culture Tower – Coffee with a 360-degree view (Danish: Kulturtårnet)

Culturetower – 360-degree view over the harbor of Copenhagen
Photo: Louise Neupert

Kulturtårnet is located in the middle of the bridge between the city center and Christians harbor. This tower once where the place where the bridge was controlled. Today it hosts concerts, exhibitions, a summer restaurant and more. From Wednesday to Sunday you can stop by in the afternoon for at cup of homebrewed coffee and the most spectacular 360-degree view over the harbor of Copenhagen. It’s fun to see some of the big sights from a different angle, and you can sit  and relax with a friend og a good book at the top floor both in- and outside.
Knippelsbro 2, 1400 København K

The swans – waterbikes with a urban feeling (Danish: Svanerne)

One of the funniest ways you can drink your coffee is in one of the waterbikes on Peblinge lake. Peblinge Lake is one of four lakes located between the city center and Nørrebro and Østerbro (two lovely neighborhoods by the way). Here you can rent a swan-waterbike at Kaffesalonen (the coffee salon) and sail around in the lake. It’s at great and different way to feel the busing and urban vibe from the city. The coffee is good (the wine even better 😉 ) and the experience it romantic, fun and unique.
Peblinge Dossering 7, København N

Café Aurelia – Coffee, glitter and passion

The cutest little place on Østerbro. Here you’ll feel like a princess with a crown and everything. Take a seat in the throne and enjoy a warm cup of coffee with a little glitter on top. It’s local, it’s intimate and you feel the passion from the sweet owner Katja as soon as you walk in the door. We love this place and hope you’ll too.
Sankt Kjelds Plads 6, København Ø

Bakkehuset – a golden age timepucket on Frederiksberg

Bakkehuset is where H.C. Andersen and many other poets from the golden age used to drink their coffee. You can feel the romantic vibe as soon as you walk through the garden gate. Explore the beautiful green orangery and the old yellow mansion surrounded by the lovely garden.
Closed in winter.

Copenhagen from an outside view (uk)

The first time I was in Copenhagen was in September 2017. After meeting a Danish girl a few months before that, she visiting me in the Netherlands and us falling in love it was time for me to visit her. I was amazed how the city felt so calm and serene, even though there lived more people than for example Amsterdam. A few years passed and several visits followed, Denmark and specifically Copenhagen started becoming a second home to me. In August 2018 my girlfriend decided to move out and live with me in the Netherlands for a year. After that we spent a few months separated again, until I took a chance and moved in December 2019. We moved into our own place, in my former second home, Copenhagen.

While visiting Denmark and Copenhagen so many times, and now also living here for a few months, I have learned much about the Danish culture and picked up on different Danish-isms.

First impressions of the city

Copenhagen can be split up into several districts, all with their own distinct identity and style, whether it’s the old and historic city center, the multicultural Nørrebro or the hip Vesterbro. The individual districts all have their own vibe and it seems like every district is its own small town. Copenhagen is a collection of small towns disguised as a big city.

The city feels very airy and not congested, what you might expect from such an urban city. I was surprised by the immensely big bike culture in Denmark, this combined with great opportunities of public transport in Copenhagen makes for a very easy way to get around the city. Whether you are a tourist or a local, there is always an opportunity to move around the city, and when the weather is good enough you can also walk everywhere!

The Danes

A country is nothing without its citizens though, so what are the Danes like? There are a lot of myths and prejudices about Danes and their country. Are the Danes really that cold and aloof? Not in my experience. You might have heard of the term hygge, an untranslatable word which is a sort of feeling of cosiness, warmness and happiness, and Danes will do anything to achieve this feeling. There is plenty of hospitality to be found in Copenhagen while enjoying a delicious wienerbrød (danish pastry) or fadøl (draft beer) you can connect with the locals talking about the weather, bike etiquette and once again the weather.

The only thing someone might need adjusting to is the Danish humor. Danish humor is typically very sarcastic, dry and even dark at times. This might cause some confusion sometimes, but don’t worry. Danes are not afraid to joke about themselves and this shows in the slogans and advertisements of certain brands.

Danish-isms

All the things mentioned before are typically Danish, but there are things you will not necessarily notice the first time around, but will become clear after visiting Denmark multiple times or when you actually live here. Something I started noticing was the thankfulness of the day to day life. In Denmark it might come across as rude to not thank for things like a meal or for a nice day with someone, so to be safe, make sure to thank for everything 😉

All in all, Copenhagen is a great city with much to offer. Whether you are looking for a lively place where there is always something to do, or you want to clear your mind and have a peaceful day in the park. The Danes will welcome you with open arms and once you get to know them better.
